BC Insight supply commentary identified China's Changdongbei sour-gas project among domestic sulfur additions reducing import needs. Incremental Chinese recovered sulfur competed with Middle East and Canadian granules into Yangtze phosphate plants through 2021-22. The conference wrap is at https://www.bcinsight.crugroup.com/2022/01/31/sulphur-sulphuric-acid-2021/.

Argus's almost 40 percent Chinese production-growth call toward 2025, four near-term projects more than 2 million tonnes a year, is the stack Changdongbei sits in. This desk note names one project. It does not invent a tonne ticker. Sour-gas Claus is how China adds recovered sulfur without importing granules.

Alberta recovered sulfur still leaves mainly through Vancouver. A named Chinese sour-gas addition is a competing origin into the same Yangtze plants Canadian cargoes serve. Import dependence still near 50 percent in early-2021 trade press is why both origins still cleared. Structural dampening is the five-year story. April 2021 is one project on that path.

Tampa climbing from about $69 toward mid-year $192 is the Florida contract this domestic Chinese addition did not prevent. Cyclical tightness and structural projects can coexist. Licensed weekly grids are not restated.

Figures follow BC Insight. Changdongbei is the named Chinese sour-gas chapter inside Argus's 40 percent 2025 production call.
