Argus Sulphur 26 May 2022 listed FOB Vancouver second quarter at $476-480 per tonne, FOB US Gulf $380-381 per tonne, CFR Brazil $458-470 per tonne, and CFR Tampa $481 per long ton. Vancouver midpoint near $478 per tonne was the highest since 2008 as Canadian solid exports surged with the global spike. The public sample is at https://view.argusmedia.com/rs/584-BUW-606/images/Argus%20Sulphur%20%282022-05-26%29.pdf.
These are figures from a public sample sheet already in the intel file, not a licensed weekly assessment grid redistributed as a table. USGS independently records Tampa at $481 per long ton in early April. The sample's $481 CFR Tampa is the same high-water mark in Argus's units. Vancouver $476-480 FOB is the Pacific solid print that USGS does not publish. Together they are the global high plateau.
Alberta recovered sulfur still leaves mainly through the Vancouver stem. $478 FOB paid remelt, rail, forming, and terminal. De-blocking into Vancouver is why January-October exports of 2.39 million tonnes already beat 2021. Heartland forming existed. South Cheecham did not. The spike was handled by the 2021-era chain.
Vancouver-China freight for 50-60,000 tonne stems near $41-46 per tonne on the same sample shows ocean logistics were themselves expensive. CFR Asia cleared far above FOB. June China CIF near $471, IndexBox, is that delivered neighbourhood. Dry-bulk strength amplified the spike. It would not prevent the crash when phosphate demand died.
US Gulf FOB $380-381 versus Vancouver $476-480 is a wide origin spread on the sample date. Tampa $481 delivered is the phosphate contract. Brazil $458-470 CFR is the Atlantic solid bid. Three basins, one expensive month. TFI's plus 198 percent sulfur cost through March is the farm-input context.
Qatar QSP $460 FOB and UAE/Kuwait $470 on the same sample are the Gulf markers. Middle East excluding Iran second-quarter FOB $380-405 is the broader Gulf band. Canadian solid at $478 competed at the top of that world. Two months later QSP would be $77 and Vancouver under $65.
The 2.79 million tonne 2022 harbour year is this $478 world in the first half plus the crash in the second. Annual volume does not equal May FOB. Licensed weekly grids beyond this public sample are not restated.
Figures follow the 26 May Argus sample and USGS Tampa. May 2022 is the reference peak for the five-year cycle.
