Argus early-2025 export notes looking back on 2024 said about 900,000 tonnes of liquid sulfur moved by rail from Canada to the US market, USGS-linked. Tariff risk later encouraged gradual diversion of some Canadian tons toward Vancouver solid exports. The item is at https://www.argusmedia.com/en/news-and-insights/latest-market-news/2670825-vancouver-jan-feb-sulphur-exports-rise-by-17pc.
Nine hundred thousand tonnes of molten rail is the physical counterpart of USGS's later 53 percent Canadian share of US elemental imports for 2021-24. It is not Vancouver's 3.35 million tonne solid year. It is tank cars south. Tampa $69 open and $81 in March, USGS MCS 2025, is the contract those cars watch.
Alberta recovered sulfur still leaves mainly through Vancouver when formed. When it stays molten, it leaves on rail to US phosphate and industrial plants. Two corridors, one recovered stream. A 25 percent tariff threat from early April 2025, in later Argus commentary, is a molten-rail risk. Forming west is the alternative, gradual because of logistics contracts.
The 15 March 2024 desk date is before that tariff talk. The intel file uses a 2024 id for a 2024 volume that Argus stated in 2025. The fact belongs on 2024: 900,000 tonnes railed. The tariff belongs on 2025. The August 2026 Section 338 list, HS 2503 not named, belongs on 2026.
VFPA 3.35 million tonnes plus 900,000 tonnes molten is 4.25 million tonnes of Canadian sulfur that left the provinces as product, in the neighbourhood of SMM's later 4.25 million tonne 2025 export print. 2024 already had a large two-door book. 2025 remelt grew the Pacific door. 2026 Hormuz made both doors swing suppliers.
US production easing toward 8.2 million tonnes in MCS 2025, shipments estimated 5 percent below 2023, is why 900,000 tonnes of Canadian molten still matter in a quiet Tampa year. The US recovers most of what it burns. It still needs the import margin.
Licensed weekly grids are not restated. USGS-linked 900,000 tonnes is the figure.
