The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority 2023-2025 statistics overview lists Port of Vancouver sulphur at 3,347,932 tonnes in 2024, from 3.10 million tonnes in 2023. Argus separately reported 2024 Vancouver solid exports up 7 percent to 3.3 million tonnes, supported by de-blocking and prilling initiatives, plus about 900,000 tonnes of Canadian liquid rail into the United States on USGS-linked figures. The PDF is at https://www.portvancouver.com/sites/default/files/2026-03/2025%20Statistics%20overview%20%28En%29.pdf.

The five-year ladder is 2.29 million tonnes in 2021, 2.79 million in 2022, 3.10 million in 2023, 3.35 million in 2024, and 3.51 million in 2025. 2024 is the fourth step. Volume grew through a soft-price year. That is term offtake and logistics clearing, not a 2022-style FOB boom.

Alberta recovered sulfur still leaves mainly through this stem. South Cheecham priller operational after January-May startup issues, and more de-blocking even as some oil-sands plants reduced production, are the Argus August explanations for why tonnes rose while some upgraders cut. Forming capacity, not Claus nameplate, set the 8 percent.

China took about 180,000 tonnes of August's 320,000 tonne month. Australia, the United States about 50,000 tonnes, and New Zealand were among destinations. Mysteel put Canada's 2024 share of Chinese sulfur imports at 1.66 million tonnes, second behind the UAE at 1.70 million, in a 9.95 million tonne Chinese import year. Vancouver is the Pacific door into that Chinese book.

The 900,000 tonne molten-rail line is the other Canadian door. USGS later put Canada at 53 percent of US elemental imports for 2021-24. Tariff talk in early 2025 would encourage gradual diversion of some of those molten tonnes toward Vancouver solid. 2024 still had both doors open without a Section 338 file.

Tampa opened 2024 at $69 per long ton and closed the fourth quarter at $116, USGS MCS 2025. Vancouver FOB averaged $78 in January-July, later Argus, before climbing toward CRU's about $275 fourth-quarter FOB narrative. A 3.35 million tonne year at those FOB ideas is a volume year, not a remelt-boom year. 2025's $238 January-July average is when remelt economics flipped.

July 2023's 13-day strike had disrupted loadings. By August 2024, January-August exports were still 15 percent above the prior year at 2.27 million tonnes. Base-effect and de-blocking both supported the rebound. The 3.35 million tonne annual is that rebound completed.
