SMM announced September 17 it will add an SMM CFR China Sulfur price point from Friday, September 25, 2026, after market research on China's roughly 9.61 million metric tonne 2025 import book and near 60 percent import dependence.
The specification calls for sulfur content at or above 99.5 percent on a dry basis, ash at or below 0.05 percent, moisture at or below 2.0 percent, in lumps or granules, CFR to main Chinese ports, minimum 8,000 metric tonnes, delivery within 60 days, quoted in dollars per metric tonne with publication each Friday at noon Beijing time. The launch adds a second open China import marker alongside existing public domestic benchmarks without replacing licensed PRA weekly assessment grids.
