Shanghai Metals Market published its June 2026 Canada sulphur trade review on August 21, putting total monthly elemental sulphur exports at 527,305 metric tonnes.
That volume was down 15.43% from May and 8.62% from June 2025 in SMM's customs-based reconstruction. SMM builds the series from open customs communication and its internal database and labels the output reference-only.
Indonesia led destinations at 198,612 mt, followed by the United States at 158,031 mt, Chile at 54,672 mt, Guinea at 41,272 mt, and China at 32,730 mt.
The destination mix shows Pacific and Atlantic buyers still drawing Canadian tonnes while Middle East seaborne remains impaired after the Hormuz closure.
Monthly sulphur imports into Canada were 1,035 mt, down 20.08% month on month and up 3.19% year on year. The United States supplied 912 mt and China 105 mt in that import ledger.
Canada's small import line is mostly cross-border molten or specialty flows rather than a bulk deficit. Alberta and British Columbia still account for the overwhelming share of export tonnes in open trade accounts.
SMM also reported sulphuric acid exports at 123,140 mt in June, up 101% month on month and down 12.09% year on year, with the United States the main destination and a minimal quantity to Morocco.
Acid exports are a separate HS book from elemental sulphur but share the same Hormuz-driven tightness in phosphate and metals chains.
SMM's earlier H1 chain review annualized Canadian sulphur exports near 5.22 Mt on a value basis. June's 527,305 mt print is a single-month checkpoint on that swing-supplier path, not a full-quarter revision.
Indonesia's 198,612 mt June lift aligns with HPAL and fertilizer demand in Southeast Asia that normally also draws Middle East tonnes. Guinea's 41,272 mt slot fits the West African phosphate corridor that has been bidding Gulf and US Gulf solids since April.
Alberta recovered sulfur still leaves mainly through the Vancouver stem. A June export total above half a million tonnes is the operational read on how much forming-plant and remelt inventory cleared Pacific terminals mid-year.
Desk read: SMM's June table is the freshest open customs snapshot for Canadian sulphur destinations. It confirms Indonesia and the US as the two largest June buyers while China took only 32,730 mt, a small share relative to pre-conflict import appetite.
