KPC rolls September contract while UAE cuts posting, Oilchem headlines say

Gulf producer direction diverges. August KSP was 865 dollars FOB Kuwait in open accounts before September rollover.

Oilchem published September 4 headlines that Kuwait Petroleum Corporation kept its September monthly sulfur contract price stable and that the United Arab Emirates lowered its September posting.

The Kuwait headline lands after open August reporting that KPC set Kuwait Sulphur Price at 865 dollars per tonne FOB Kuwait, down 85 dollars from July, with Hormuz-route freight and insurance elevating delivered China costs in the same accounts.

Oilchem did not publish September dollar levels outside its subscription wall, so the desk records direction only: one major Gulf seller rolled and another cut.

That split matters for nomination math. Contract postings set the floor for term cargoes even when spot markets trade at premiums or discounts to official levels.

FDD-global's August fertilizer digest put Abu Dhabi National Oil Company August sulfur at 1,000 dollars per tonne FOB Ruwais unchanged from July, oriented to the Indian subcontinent rather than China's import book.

A September cut headline for the UAE therefore signals softer Gulf sentiment toward at least one destination basin even as Chinese port prices rebound.

For Alberta and British Columbia recovery tonnes, Gulf contract stability or cuts do not automatically move Vancouver FOB, but they change the competitive set against which Pacific stems bid into South America, North Africa, and Asia.

SMM's open analysis earlier in 2026 described Canada filling gaps in those markets while rail capacity stayed saturated, with FOB Vancouver rising from roughly 492 dollars per tonne at the start of the year toward the 680 to 720 dollar range by spring.

Middle East seaborne through Hormuz remains impaired in open trade reporting, so producer contract direction is one of the few scheduled price signals still publishing on calendar.

China's May 2026 sulfuric acid export suspension and Russia's extended sulfur export restrictions keep alternative supply channels constrained, which can hold Pacific premiums even when Gulf postings ease.

Indian and Southeast Asian tender activity remains the other public anchor for CFR discussions, but today's signal is producer-side rather than buyer-side.

Alberta forming plants and the Vancouver stem will read Gulf postings as nomination context: stable KSP plus a UAE cut is not a uniform Middle East easing.

Desk read: September Gulf contracts are no longer one-way higher. Pacific sellers should watch whether Chinese port firming pulls CFR bids back above contract-implied delivered costs or whether producer cuts start to leak into spot offers.
